PRP treatment for hair loss

Hair loss is an unpleasant problem for many people. As many as 60% of women and 40% of men experience permanent hair loss. People usually only get worried when there are too many hairs in the comb when combing their hair. Sometimes the problem is also indicated by the presence of clumps of hair on clothes, in the bathroom after washing the head or even on the pillow when waking up in the morning.

Hair loss is a natural process, as hair needs to regenerate and grow back. But what if you are experiencing intense hair loss and no amount of hair care, vitamins, masks and other treatments can stop it?

Intense hair loss is caused by many reasons. Hair loss can be caused by:

  • Hormonal changes in the body;
  • an unbalanced diet, nutritional disorders (when the foods consumed are deficient in iron, trace elements, certain minerals or vitamins);
  • inflammatory processes in the body;
  • various illnesses such as liver, gallbladder, infectious diseases, intoxication, etc;
  • disturbed metabolism;
  • improper hair care;
  • weakened immunity, chronic stress, tension, mood swings;
  • exposure to the environment, not getting enough fresh air, etc.

PRP hair treatment

If you have tried many hair loss treatments and still haven’t solved the problem, the dermatologists at the Laser Dermatology Centre can perform the PRP procedure. PRP therapy (plasmolfting) or platelet-rich plasma therapy is a treatment for hair loss in which platelet-rich plasma from the patient’s own blood is injected by microinjection. This makes the procedure completely safe and very rarely has side effects. During the procedure, 25 ml of blood is drawn from a vein and centrifuged to prepare the PRP injection. The extracted platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the appropriate points on the scalp after local anaesthesia. Minimal pain is felt only if the patient’s skin is particularly sensitive. Approximately three to four months after the first PRP treatment, the hair starts to grow and the results of the treatment start to show. During and after the PRP procedure, platelets release growth factors that are responsible for the hair growth cycle. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) activates hair follicle division. The effect of PRP hair therapy becomes more and more noticeable after each treatment.

It is recommended to repeat the PRP treatment for hair loss every 2 to 3 months, and the number of PRP treatments to be carried out is determined by a medical specialist who assesses the causes of hair loss, the intensity, contraindications, and other factors relevant to the treatment.

PRP hair treatment:

Effectively treats male and female pattern baldness;

Strengthens hair follicles, stops hair loss;

Stimulates new hair growth;

Stimulates hair growth after a hair transplant procedure.

Is PRP hair therapy painful?

If the patient prefers, an anaesthetic cream can be used during the procedure, but this is usually not necessary. A slight tingling sensation is felt during the procedure.

After the PRP procedure:

  • It is not recommended to rub the hair or urinate on the scalp;
  • Do not take anticoagulants for some time after the PRP procedure;
  • Avoiding sunlight for a week is recommended;
  • It is not recommended to exercise or do hard physical work for a few days. Sweating and high blood pressure should be avoided;
  • Alcohol consumption is not recommended for several days.

The PRP procedure is not recommended

PRP treatment for hair loss is not recommended for patients with oncological, autoimmune, connective tissue diseases, during pregnancy, lactation, infections.

In case of intense hair loss, which is really worrying, it is advisable to consult a medical specialist. It is very important to pay timely attention to changes in the hair, as these indicate the possible existence of other diseases. Hair loss must be prevented, and one of the most effective ways is the PRP procedure, which has received excellent feedback from patients. However, it should be noted that if there is a delay in treatment and the hair follicles are completely degraded, PRP therapy will no longer help. Therefore, if you start treating hair loss earlier, you can expect better results.
